Shell Granule Export: A Supply Guide for Overseas Buyers
Exporting walnut and apricot shell granule to blasting and cosmetic buyers abroad; a container, packaging and supply guide for overseas buyers.
Before it’s ground and brought to a defined calibre, the shell of hard-shelled fruit is usually seen as a waste item. Yet once broken down to the right size and calibrated, what comes out is a hard-structured but non-aggressive, fully organic abrasive. In this piece we look at exporting shell granule to overseas buyers — its industrial blasting and cosmetic peeling use areas, container loading and the supply process.
What Is Shell Granule, How Is It Made
Walnut, apricot kernel, hazelnut or peach kernel shell is brought to a specific grain-size range through drying and grinding stages. Thanks to its natural cellulose and lignin structure, the resulting material becomes a granule that’s hard but carries abrasive properties. Hardness level varies by shell type, and that difference also determines which surface and process the granule is suited to.
Grain-size distribution (mesh/calibre), dust content and moisture level are the critical parameters in the granulation process. We treat these parameters not as a fixed “standard product” but as variables shaped by the buyer’s application — a point we cover further below.
Raw-material sourcing generally rests on shell waste coming from regional nut and apricot processing facilities. This shell is separated and cleaned before grinding; internal fruit fragments, non-shell organic matter and foreign particles are cleared out as much as possible. This pre-cleaning step directly affects the final product’s purity, especially in cosmetic-purpose granule.
Use in Industrial Blasting and Surface Cleaning
Shell granule’s most common industrial use is blasting operations, where it’s sprayed onto a surface with compressed air or mechanical systems. Unlike mineral abrasive materials such as sand or glass beads, shell granule cleans a surface without eroding it; this property makes it a preferred material especially in the following areas:
Soft metal and delicate surfaces
On soft-metal surfaces like aluminum, copper and thin sheet metal, shell granule cleans paint, oxide or coating without scratching or deforming the underlying metal. Where hard mineral abrasives can cause permanent damage on this type of surface, organic granule offers more controlled abrasion.
Mold and casting cleaning
In cleaning residue, oil and oxide layers off mold surfaces, walnut shell granule stands out for its ability to clean the surface without distorting the mold geometry. Thanks to its hardness and grain structure, walnut shell is one of the most preferred types in mold cleaning.
Automotive and restoration
In automotive applications such as engine block, wheel rim, underbody and classic-car restoration, shell granule is widely used for paint stripping and rust removal. In restoration work, especially where preserving the original surface of a historic or delicate part matters, the organic abrasive’s non-aggressive structure is an advantage.
Shell Granule in Cosmetic Peeling
In the cosmetics sector, restrictions on microplastic-containing peeling products have raised demand for natural, biodegradable alternatives. Shell granule stands out here as an organic raw material able to replace plastic microbeads.
Apricot kernel shell granule is a particularly prominent type in this area. In its finely ground form, it’s used in body and facial peels, soap formulations and mechanical cleansers. Granule intended as cosmetic feedstock needs to meet a different, stricter cleanliness standard than industrial blasting granule — a difference covered in the next section.
Other Uses: Polishing and Filtration
Beyond blasting and cosmetics, shell granule is also preferred in fine polishing operations (particularly jewelry and metal polishing) and in some filtration applications. In filtration, the granule’s porous structure helps hold specific particles in liquid and gas flows. Each of these use areas requires a different grain size and cleanliness level.
A Buyer’s Guide: Choosing the Right Granule
Mesh/calibre is matched to request
There’s no single “standard” grain size in shell granule. Blasting, polishing, filtration and cosmetic peeling — each requires a different calibre range. We don’t work to a fixed mesh value but match a batch according to the buyer’s application and target surface/process type. That’s why, instead of sharing a set mesh number, we move forward by discussing your application and target surface/process type; for serious-volume requests we consider a sample in the relevant range together. Calibre varies by batch — an exact figure isn’t committed to in advance.
Hardness selection by application
Hardness level changes with shell type. A finer, lower-aggression granule is preferred for soft metal or delicate surfaces, while a harder type and coarser calibre may suit tougher jobs like mold cleaning or thick-coating removal. We assess together which shell type suits which application once we learn your intended use.
Cleanliness standard for cosmetics
For granule requested as cosmetic feedstock, criteria such as dust content, foreign matter and microbial cleanliness come to the fore, differently from industrial use. For these requests we match the batch to the cleanliness and purity expectation the buyer states.
Confirm with a sample
For serious-volume evaluations, in both use areas, making the final decision based on a sample can be useful. On request, a sample matching your requested grain size, hardness and cleanliness level can be prepared and sent, so we confirm together whether the material fits your application before moving to bulk supply.
Supply for Domestic and Export
Demand for shell granule can be met both through regular truck shipment to domestic industrial facilities and container-based loading for export. We can plan regular tonnage for domestic industrial and cosmetic-feedstock buyers; on the export side we supply with packaging (big-bag) suited to container-loading standards.
Just tell us your application, target grain-size range and tonnage need — let’s settle product and sample details together.
