Trabzon: strength from location, not tonnage
Trabzon's hazelnut shell production is more limited than the other Black Sea provinces (TÜİK 2024, approx. 38,000 tonnes). But the province's real role isn't in tonnage: sitting at the centre of the port and land-border corridor toward the Caucasus, Georgia and Russia makes Trabzon a natural gateway for the hazelnut shell export line.
Why we cover Trabzon separately
Trabzon has hazelnut-shell cracking plants, but our company doesn't operate its own facility or warehouse in the province. We work with cracking plants in the region; loading can be planned through Trabzon's port or another connected point depending on the buyer's request.
The province is also a junction in export geography: for shipments heading east to Georgia and the Caucasus, or north toward Russia, Trabzon is a natural part of the route. Demand for hazelnut shell exports here is shaped not only by local production but by this locational advantage.
Trabzon, District by District
Four lines from production to port
Şalpazarı: the province's top producer
According to TÜİK 2024, Şalpazarı is Trabzon's highest-producing district for hazelnuts, at roughly 14,100 tonnes. Most of the province's cracking-plant activity is also concentrated around this district.
For an export buyer looking for hazelnut-shell cracking plants, Şalpazarı is the closest point we work with to the source in Trabzon; moving shell from here to the coast, and from there to the loading point, forms the first link in the route.
Vakfıkebir, Beşikdüzü and Çarşıbaşı: the western coastal line
Vakfıkebir, Beşikdüzü and Çarşıbaşı form the coastal line stretching west of Trabzon; the hazelnut orchards sit close to the shoreline, which shortens the time it takes for shell to reach a cracking plant after harvest.
These three districts also intersect with shell movement coming from the Giresun direction; the western line acts as a natural bridge connecting Trabzon's source map with its neighbouring province.
Akçaabat, Ortahisar and the port area: the export gateway
Ortahisar covers the provincial centre and Trabzon Port; Akçaabat sits just to its west. Container loading in the hazelnut shell export process is generally planned along this line.
Because the distance between the region's cracking plants and the port is short, combining batches from different districts into a single shipment is more practical here. We work out with the buyer, before the order, which documents are needed — such as a certificate of origin, export invoice or customs declaration.
Of, Sürmene, Araklı and Tonya: the eastern line and inland areas
Of, Sürmene and Araklı form the line continuing along the coast to the province's east; Tonya sits inland, rising from the coast, where the harvest calendar runs a little later than the coastal districts.
Because this line sits geographically close to Rize, Trabzon's coverage area widens here for eastbound shipments. The province's remaining districts — Arsin, Çaykara, Dernekpazarı, Düzköy, Hayrat, Köprübaşı, Maçka and Yomra — are part of the harvest calendar too, though the current cracking-plant network is concentrated on the four lines above.
For the Export Buyer
Harvest calendar, supply and paperwork
Harvest and supply calendar
Shell supply follows the hazelnut cracking season; before giving a date, we check which plant will load and the in-season stock position.
Container loading
Loading can be planned through Trabzon Port or a connected port depending on the buyer's delivery terms (FOB/CIF); the exact plan is confirmed before the order.
Documents and paperwork
We don't promise to provide documents; we work out with the buyer which ones are needed — certificate of origin, export invoice, customs paperwork.
Continuity of supply
Trabzon alone isn't a large-volume source, so we evaluate it alongside the region's other provinces (Ordu, Samsun, Giresun) and diversify sourcing as needed.
